About Us Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra Located in Kurukshetra, the land of the Bhagwadgita  Kurukshetra University is a premier institute of higher learning in India. It is spread over 400 acres of land on the south bank of the holy Brahmsarovar. Its foundation stone was laid on 11 January 1957 by Bharatratna Dr.Rajendra Prasad, the first President of the Indian Republic. Since then it has aimed at pursuing excellence in teaching and research in science, technology, humanities, social sciences, performing arts and sports. Dept. of Geology      The Department of Geology was established in the 1990-91.The Departmental has five faculty members. Besides running M.Sc Applied Geology and M.Tech Applied Geology (5 years Integrated Course) program, the Department undertakes PhD Program in different specializations. The Department has had a funding of about Rs. 10 million through numerous research projects sanctioned by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi, the University Grant Commission, New Delhi and University funding. The Department has also been given a grant of Rs. 25 lac under the FIST program of the DST.   Since its inception the Department has grown up steadily and has now achieved  almost 100% placement of students in Government Departments / Institutions such as Geological Survey of India, Central Ground Water Board, NHPC, State Mineral Exploration Departments; Haryana Agriculture Department, Universities / Colleges;  Research Institutions such as Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany, Lucknow, NIO, Goa, Center for Antarctic and Ocean Research, Goa.  National Corporations & MNCs’ such as ONGC, OIL, Hindustan Zinc Ltd Schlumberger, Fugro, Energy infra-tech Pvt Ltd , Cengers Geo-Tech Ltd, Planman ITES, Pan India Ltd, Reliance Energy, , Jubilant Enpro, GT, Kampsax, Cairn Energy,  RITES, InfoTech, Tullow Pvt Ltd, Shiv- vani Universal etc. and NGOs.
